THE CAA STELLAR EARL GROSVENOR HANDICAP STAKES - 7F

Revich (4) EW

A very competitive handicap and one where course form will very important. Revich is a multiple course winner including this race 12 months ago. I expect a lot of pace out-front and hopefully he can sit behind the leaders and pick them up on the straight. Worth an EW bet at 11/1. Another with EW claims is Percys Lad 13/2  who would’ve been a strong fancy but for the poor draw.

Revich (4) EW

Not getting any younger, but this looks to have been the target again. Connections worked hard to get the mark back down, conditions will suit & Jim Crowley back on board. EW player.

THE BOODLES DARLEY "CONFINED" MAIDEN STAKES - 1M 4F

Ephesus (3)

Very tricky to get a grasp on the horses due to only seeing them race a maximum of two times. Ephesus was very babyish on his debut and definitely would’ve learnt a lot from his racecourse experience apparently working nicely at home. This race went to the favourite last year and I can see 2024 playing out the same way.

Ephesus (3)

Ran well on debut coming 3rd & should take a massive step forward today. Stall 4 is no problem & William Buick is not a bad substitute for Ryan Moore, I can see the Obrien Chester dominance continuing here.

THE TOTE FREE BET FRIDAY HANDICAP STAKES - 1M 2F

Botanical (3)

Hopefully Botanical can resume his winning ways when last seen winning impressively last year at Hamilton. His draw is a negative but plays less of a factor over these extended trip but if he is race fit he’s sure to be flying home towards the end of the race.

City Streak (5)

Won at this meeting last year, A good 2nd on reappearance, goes on any ground, rating of 91 should be within reach. Stall 1 a positive.

THE IRE-INCENTIVE, IT PAYS TO BUY IRISH HUXLEY STAKES - 1M 2F

Passenger (6)

A great race here and I’m a big fan of Passenger. An impressive winner on debut, he would’ve gone very close in the Dante but met dreadful traffic in key points of the race. We didn’t stay the Derby trip but ran well and I can see him adding another 1 next to his name here. If it was to come up soft Royal Rhyme would be a huge danger.

Hans Anderson (2) EW

It's always worth taking note when an Obrien runner wins on debut or seasonal reappearance, as the trainer likes to let the horses get some match fitness before ramping them up, Hans has to improve to win this, but that's possible, a cracking EW bet.

THE DUKE OF WESTMINSTER SUPPORTING THE CHESTER CUP - 2M 2F

Forza Orta (15) EW

17 runners over 2M2F, this race is going to be carnage. The main one I fancy here is Forza Orta, he’ll like the good ground and won the heritage stayers handicap at York impressively over 2M. He’s up 3 pounds, has had a prep run and will hopefully run a big race at decent odds (16/1) . Too Friendly is another who will like the ground and could run a big race (20/1).

Too Friendly (14) EW

Very lightly raced on the flat, only 7 in this code & won nicely at Kempton LTO, a 4lb rise could prove lenient & he may be ahead of the handicapper. SDS booked to ride is an added bonus.

THE DUKE OF WESTMINSTER SUPPORTING THE CHESTER PLATE HANDICAP STAKES - 2M 2F

Law of the Sea (2) EW

Another huge field over a stamina testing trip. I like Law Of The Sea at a big price. He’ll definitely stay, acts on good ground and has gone well at the course before. I wish he would’ve had a prep run but if he’s ready to rock and roll hopefully we get a good run for our money.

Law of the Sea (2) EW

Our second "lottery" race in a row! Was an eyecatching 4th in the cup last year at 40/1, was unlucky not to win! He's 2lb lower in the plate this year, if the break has freshened him up, he should run well Crowley back on board and stall 2.

4:50

THE HORSE PWR APPRENTICE HANDICAP STAKES (Div I) - 1M 4F

Order of Malta (4)

A very tricky apprentice handicap here, I like Order Of Malta, he goes on the ground and has ran well enough at Chester before. His mark has dropped below that of his last winning mark and top apprentice Brandon Wilkie claims another valuable 3 pounds off. If he’s fit and ready to go hopefully Order Of Malta can go close.

Chillhi (1)

An apprentice race, if you're up, don't give it all back to the bookies here! Horse was a good 3rd last year, done nothing since, but is 8lb lower than that encouraging run, not one to put full faith in but I can see a pattern which Points to a big run.

THE HORSE PWR APPRENTICE HANDICAP STAKES (Div I) - 1M 4F

Turner Girl (3) EW

A very tricky race to finish the card with another Apprentice handicap. Destinado likes to fly home late and if he had a clear passage must have a big chance, the ground a worry though. The one I’m siding with is Turner Girl who was arguably most impressive last time out with front running tactics. She can do the same here from stall 4 at 13/2 EW.

Whispering Royal (5) EW

Alan King has won this race for the last 2 years. He has a 47% strike rate over this C&D and in a race where finding the winner is difficult, I'm happy to with a stats angle in the lucky last.

Stats and Facts

0

Alan king has a 47% win rate at Chester over 1m4f, runs Whispering Royal today.

0

All but one winner of the Chester cup since 1986 aged 7 or younger.

0

1m 30.37s. Percy’s lad holds the record at the track over 7f127y, the same distance he runs at today.

0

Box to box has won at the course 4 times.

Chester is a premium race track that spans around 1 mile from start to finish, this means that the draw at the start is key as the lower number drawn horses have a better chance of winning due to having less distance to run round the inside of the tight track.
